Septentrionale Rhône Valley

The Northern Rhône Valley is located south of Lyon and extends to Valence, covering nearly 4,000 hectares. This part of the Rhône Valley is known for its terraced vineyards on steep slopes along the Rhône. It enjoys a cooler climate compared to the southern part. The main grape varieties used are Syrah for red wines, and Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier for white wines.

Meridionale Rhône Valley

The Southern Rhône Valley stretches from Montélimar to Avignon, reaching as far as Mont Ventoux, covering a much larger area of 71,000 hectares. It has a different topography than the northern part, with flatter landscapes and a Mediterranean climate. The grape varieties found in the Northern Rhône are joined by Grenache, Cinsault, and Mourvèdre for reds, and Bourboulenc, Clairette, and Grenache Blanc for whites.
